“The Mini-Mega-Yacht”…that’s how the 55’ Monte Fino was described by boating journalists when she was introduced in 2000. It was an accurate interpretation of the yacht’s unique character back then…and equally true today! One of only three boats custom-built in the same yard as the highly regarded Hargrave Brand of luxury yachts, the Monte Fino 55' provides the discerning buyer a unique opportunity to own a vessel that provides the spaciousness and quality of a much larger boat.In fact, the comment often made by guests or those working on the boat, is "She feels much bigger - I can't believe she's only 55 feet!" The three beautifully appointed cherry wood, split-plan state rooms each with its own en suite head and shower, a separate office (so important in today's internet-driven world!) and a stand-up engine room completes a trio of features unmatched by any other, comparable-sized boat in its class.
Access to the swim platform for a quick swim, snorkeling trip, or fitting scuba tanks is simplicity itself - via two gently curved side stairs. Returning to the boat from the water, even with heavy scuba tanks, is easy - via a sturdy S/S and teak boarding ladder which folds easily for storage, along with other equipment in the spacious below-deck storage hatch. Aft, lower and upper decks, as well as the swim platform, are fitted with durable, maintenance-free ‘Nu-Teak’.
Stepping onto the covered aft deck of the boat, from either starboard or port side via the rolling ‘Marquipt’ boarding ladder, one is greeted by a large 8-seat, marquetry-topped dining table with seating provided by a comfortable padded transom bench to stern and 5 collapsible teak chairs with seat and backrest cushions, forward. Opposite, and serving the dining area is a ‘Jennair’ electric BBQ grill and a 115-volt AC ‘U-Line’ fridge/icemaker.Access down to the swim platform is via the S/S and glass gates and gently curved illuminated steps to port and starboard. Entry to the flybridge, is via a compact, molded staircase to starboard. Not shown are three-sided, removable shades which protect from the tropical sun and enhance the intimacy of the aft-deck dining experience - along with ceiling-mounted sound and variable-color lighting for the vessel's underwater and deck lighting.
Up molded stairs to starboard, brings you to the spacious, Bimini-covered flybridge with captain’s console and a commanding view of the foredeck and bow from two polished teak-trimmed ‘Pompanette’ helm chairs. Refreshments and drinks can be comfortably enjoyed, while underway, on the curved bench seating and foldable teak table. To stern, there is ample room for the powerful davit, sturdy dinghy chocks, life raft and storage for spare props. The top of the stairs can be closed off from inclement weather with a heavy-duty sliding S/S and tinted ‘Plexiglass’ sliding hatch.
A tour of Ocanos' exterior is completed with a walk around the gangways to starboard and port. Starting on the starboard side one passes a full set of rear controls (gears, throttles, bow and stern thrusters as well as lighting switches) mounted to the right of the flybridge stairs. Also located in the starboard gangway are storage clamps for the ‘Marquipt' rolling boarding ladder. In the bow, there are custom S/S fender holders, twin anchor systems, twin sundeck cushions, two storage lockers and an extra dock-box for spare lines and other items.
After entering the interior through the heavy-duty S/S and tinted-glass sliding door, the interior view is unbroken for the length of the superstructure - creating a feeling of surprising spaciousness. The interior is classically finished in beautifully crafted, polished cherry wood, which is a tribute to the cabinetmaker's art. To port is a comfortable, micro-fiber covered, couch and a curved service/buffet console and two S/S bar stools to starboard. The main portion of the area is devoted to casual entertaining with a custom, high-low, folding cherry wood dining table, topped with exquisite marquetry - which houses two box seats to provide adequate seating, along with the couch and two bar stools for cocktails and casual dining. The classical marine atmosphere of the salon is further enhanced by an elegant, overhead, recessed-lighting feature, usually reserved for much larger yachts and which allows fixtures to be recessed into the circular soffit to provide muted, recessed lighting. Other surprising "mega-yacht" features are the air-conditioning vents that have been painstakingly crafted with their polished cherry wood slats matching the rest of the interior cabinetry. From the galley, there is the same unbroken view for the length of the superstructure to the aft deck dining area. Apart from the ample under-couch storage, the curved cherry wood console opposite accommodates the flat-screen TV, sound system and wine storage. Fabric-covered privacy shades are fitted to all windows and although the yacht was originally fitted with a teak and holly sole throughout the boat, the original flooring is covered with fitted high-quality, beige Berber carpeting in the salon and in all staterooms.
The large, split-plan Master Stateroom is located in the stern and accessed via a private, curved staircase on the aft-starboard side of the salon, with the size, privacy and features that one would expect in a much larger vessel. A queen-size island berth with twin nightstands, a make-up vanity and stool to port, large 'his' and 'hers' cedar lined hanging lockers to starboard and a ‘floating’ mirrored ceiling with recessed lighting, creates a truly luxurious sleeping space with the yacht's signature, gloss cherry wood finishes on all cabinetry.Like all staterooms, the ‘Master’en suitehead and shower boasts granite counter tops and German shower and basin fittings. Also, lift-off hinges have been fitted to all doors to aid hatch accessibility during routine maintenance. The boat’s steering system, 150-gallon Aluminum fresh-water tanks, stern thruster, associated batteries and aft bilge pump are located under the berth.
Unlike most "office" spaces on yachts of this size, the office on the ‘Ocanos’ is completely separate with a generous cherry wood desk with two sets of drawers, hanging overhead cabinets, a full-sized office chair and adequate power outlets. Alongside the desk is a large, upright fridge/freezer, which provides additional storage for perishables used in the galley. Also, conveniently located under the stairs to the galley/lower helm, are the separate washer and dryer units. The lower deck also provides excellent under-floor accessibility to the bow thruster and batteries, main holding tank, grey water tanks, forward bilge and heavy-duty head pumps.
Forward and a step up from the salon is the galley, which is directly opposite the lower helm. The galley is a gourmet's delight. Equipped with an under-counter fridge, large porcelain double sinks, flush-mounted 4-burner GE Profile electric cooktop and a convection microwave oven - all mounted under a sleek and durable granite counter top - it provides ample surface space for meal preparation. As an adjunct to the galley and yet another "mega yacht" feature is a spacious, upright 21-cubic feet refrigerator - with ice and water dispensers - located down the stairs and alongside the office. The lower helm is comprehensively equipped with a package of Raytheon electronics (including radar, autopilot, GPS, VHF and depth/speed/log and CAT engine monitoring systems) flush-mounted in an oversized dashboard. Comfortably seated on the raised bench seating, the helmsman has an excellent view forward and to the sides, making it an excellent, all-weather helm station. A mime panel is located to the right of the control panel, which alerts the helmsman of any activated bilge pumps, lights or blowers. The vessel's breaker panel, located at the top of the staircase leading down to the two forward staterooms, is protected by a glass door and is hinged for accessibility to all breaker wiring. To its left and beneath the helm is a generous crawl space, which allows access to electrical components, electronics and portside Glendenning power-cable mechanism.
Under Lower Helm:
VIP Stateroom:Most visitors who come aboard the ‘Ocanos’ are amazed to find that the boat has three spacious staterooms - each en suite with a completely separate office, to port. Two of the staterooms are located forward and to starboard; with the VIP in the traditional position in the bow with an island, queen-sized berth surrounded by bureaus, twin hanging lockers that provide generous storage, and an en suite head and shower. Entry to the VIP and the Third Stateroom is via an elegant foyer at the foot of the stairs from the galley and lower helm.Guest Stateroom:The Third Stateroom, with two single berths and an elegant circular shower is located on the starboard side under the galley. As with the VIP and ‘Master’ it is completely self-contained for maximum guest privacy with head, shower, flat screen TV, wall mirrors and generous, cedar-lined storage drawers and closets.
Entry to the rarely found 'stand-up' engine room, particularly in a 55' yacht, is via the small foyer outside the master stateroom. Once inside the solid fire door, access to all maintenance areas of the twin 600hp CAT 3196's is excellent and makes routine maintenance a breeze. There's plenty of room for the 21.5kw Onan generator (2422hrs) in its sound box, as well as the five individual 'Cruise-Air' A/C units providing complete zone flexibility for maximum guest comfort.Experienced boaters will also be impressed by the convenience of a custom workbench, complete with a small workshop vice, and the simple layout of the fuel-distribution manifold. The two 475-gallon fuel tanks to port and starboard are located alongside each engine with sight tubes and access hatches for tank cleaning.Easy-Access, Stand-up Engine Room:1 x ‘Hynautic’ Engine Control Pressure Tank1 x ‘Hynautic’ Steering Pressure Pump1 x Reverse Osmosis H/P pump1 x Black-water Holding Tank Filter1 x Diaphragm Salt-Water Wash-down Pump1 x Fresh Water Pump & Pressurizing Tank1 x Generator Battery1 x Manual Bilge Pump1 x Reverse Osmosis Sea-Water Pump1 x Pressurising Tank & U-V Steriliser2 x 220 to 110-volt Transformers2 x Grey Water Float-operated Sump Pumps2 x House Batteries4 x DC Bilge pumps with Float Switches6 x Engine Batteries (Located Below Engine Room Deck Plates)’Raritan’ Electric Hot Water Tank/Heater2 x A/C Salt -Water Pumps‘Reverso’ Oil Change System1 x ‘Professional Mariner‘ Battery Charger APM82 and 2 x APM 53-3’sCustom Work Bench and Vice‘Fire-Boy’ FM 200 Automatic Fire-extinguishing System
Construction of the vessel was to full ABYC standards (the factory is certified to the strict ISO 9000 codes). Additionally, few yachts this size can lay claim a one-piece hull and deck (hand-laid roving and ‘Knytex’) that eliminates the joins that are often the source of troublesome leaks.
